Merete Rasmussen
Merete Rasmussen is an accomplished contemporary sculptor working primarily in ceramics, but also in bronze. Interested in exploring the way one defines space through physical presence the artist is intrigued by the fluidity of a continuous surface generated by a connected edge flowing through an entire form.
Derived from repeated natural shapes or complex mathematical constructions and colored in vibrant hues, the finished sculptures emphasize the discovery of positive and negative space while conveying energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of purpose.
Rasmussen holds a MA in Ceramics from the Kolding Design School in Denmark. Her works have been exhibited throughout Europe and the United States and are a part of prestigious public collections such as: Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, the National Museum of Scotland in the United Kingdom, and MAD Museum of Arts and Design, New York. Rasmussen is Danish and has lived in the UK since 2005.
