About

The ethereal abstract canvases of Patrick Wilson are derived from the urban west coast landscape. Each minimal scene is stripped down to its essence: cropped geometric fields of luminously complex color, which are layered on the surface in countless thin, almost transparent, coats. The resulting pristine surfaces are reminiscent of the wide-open deserts, beaches and skies of Southern California, where the artist makes his home.

Wilson has exhibited across the country and has been reviewed in publications such as Art in AmericaARTnews, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle. His work can be found in public collections that include the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, OH; Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; Long Beach Museum of Art, Long Beach, CA; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA; the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; and the San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA.
